Differences in Beam Patterns Between Motorcycle and Car Headlights
The optical requirements for car headlights and motorcycle headlights differ and can be categorized into three types:
- Car Headlights (Left-Hand Traffic)
- The beam pattern has a horizontal cutoff on the left side and an upward 15-degree cutoff on the right side.
- This is suitable for countries with left-hand traffic, such as Taiwan, the United States, Germany, etc.
- Car Headlights (Right-Hand Traffic)
- The beam pattern has a horizontal cutoff on the right side and an upward 15-degree cutoff on the left side.
- This is suitable for countries with right-hand traffic, such as the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, etc.
- Motorcycle Headlights
- The beam pattern has a horizontal cutoff on both sides, making it symmetrical.
- This pattern is suitable for both left-hand and right-hand traffic countries.
Car headlight beam patterns vary depending on whether the vehicle is designed for left-hand or right-hand traffic. In contrast, motorcycle headlight beam patterns are symmetrical and suitable for both types of traffic. However, some manufacturers use car headlights on motorcycles, and in such cases, it is essential to ensure that the beam pattern complies with the traffic requirements of the country where the vehicle is used.
Left-Hand Traffic (LHT):
- About two-thirds of the world.
- Such as Taiwan, the United States, Germany, etc.
Right-Hand Traffic (RHT):
- About one-third of the world.
- Such as the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, etc.
